Some babies just love to tuck up with their legs underneath them as if they were still in the womb. Others love to curl sideways. And some just like to stretch out as far as they can.

During this newborn photography session at my studio in Te Awamutu, sweet little Caleb left us in no doubt of his preference. He didn’t have the longest legs around, but he was very clear that he wanted them stretched out as much as possible! According to his mum, he did a lot of this in her tummy too – ouch!

Caleb hadn't been the best sleeper during the first week of his life, but he was so happy and contented during our session. I really enjoyed working with him! We got some very sweet tucked up photos of him near the beginning, showing off those beautiful newborn rolls and wrinkles, and then we tailored the rest of his session to let him stretch out like he wanted. I had been wanting to try some photos of a baby tucked into my huge teak African baby bath in a bed of quilts and blankets, and he was the perfect model for this. Those photos are some of my favourites from our session. And we even managed to get a few little smiles along the way!

Caleb's parents were also hoping to get some photos of him with their family tartan and a beautiful shawl that they had brought. I love being able to customise sessions with family heirlooms or personal items like these.
